Welcome to LACAME 2026

XIX Latin American Conference on the Applications of the Mössbauer Effect
9 – 13 November 2026, La Plata, Argentina

(last update: 20 March 2026)*

We are pleased to announce the XIX Latin American Conference on the Applications of the Mössbauer Effect (LACAME 2026), to be held in November 2026 in the city of La Plata, Republic of Argentina.

LACAME is a biennial international scientific conference held in different countries across Latin America, focused on applications of characterization techniques based on the Mössbauer Effect. Since its  first edition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1988), the conference has been successfully organized in Cuba (1990), Argentina (1992, 2008), Chile (1994, 2018), Peru (1996, 2010, 2024), Colombia (1998, 2012), Venezuela (2000), Panama (2002, 2016), Mexico (2004, 2014), and Brazil (2006, 2022). The city of La Plata previously hosted the conference in 2008, with remarkable academic and social impact, and will once again welcome the international community working in this field in 2026. Argentina was also the second host country of LACAME, in 1992, and with this edition will reach its third time as host of the conference.

The conference will take place from 9 to 13 November 2026 at the facilities of the Institute of Physics La Plata (IFLP), in La Plata, Argentina.

The scientific program will include plenary lectures, oral presentations, poster sessions, and a round-table discussion. A book of abstracts will be published, and authors will have the opportunity to submit their contributions for peer review and possible publication in a special issue of a recognized journal; the journal Interactions (formerly Hyperfine Interactions, Springer Nature) is currently under consideration. In addition, the conference will be accompanied by a satellite school: the Latin American School on Mössbauer Spectroscopy (ELAEM). The school will be held through virtual sessions prior to LACAME, while the practical activities will take place during the LACAME week, providing targeted training for postgraduate students and early-career researchers and fostering scientific capacity building in the region

LACAME 2026 represents a unique opportunity to strengthen scientific exchange, promote regional collaboration, and support the development of emerging researchers in Latin America and beyond. We look forward to welcoming you to La Plata in 2026!

Scope

LACAME 2026 will cover a broad range of fundamental and applied research topics related to the Mössbauer Effect and its associated experimental and theoretical techniques. The conference aims to provide a platform for discussing recent advances, emerging methodologies, and interdisciplinary applications across physics, chemistry, materials science, geosciences, and related fields.
The scientific programme will include contributions in the following thematic areas:

T01 – Magnetism and Solid-State Physics
Magnetic ordering phenomena, hyperfine interactions, electronic structure, strongly correlated systems, and fundamental aspects of condensed matter physics.
T02 – Thin Films and Nanostructures
Low-dimensional systems, nanoparticles, multilayers, interfaces, and size-dependent effects in nanostructured materials.
T03 – Materials Science and Industrial Applications
Functional materials, alloys, steels, energy-related materials, catalysis, corrosion, and technological applications of Mössbauer spectroscopy.
T04 – Biological and Medical Applications
Iron-containing biomolecules, ferritin, heme proteins, pharmaceutical compounds, and biomedical-related materials.
T05 – Earth Science and Mineralogy
Mineral characterization, planetary materials, geochemistry, environmental applications, and studies of natural and synthetic minerals.
T06 – Cultural Heritage
Characterization of archaeological materials, pigments, ceramics, and conservation science applications.
T07 – Coherent Phenomena
Nuclear Forward Scattering (NFS), synchrotron-based techniques, time-domain Mössbauer spectroscopy, and coherent nuclear resonant scattering.
T08 – Lattice Dynamics and Vibrational Properties
Phonon-related phenomena, recoil-free fraction studies, temperature-dependent effects, and vibrational spectroscopy correlations.
T09 – Experimental Techniques, Methodology, and Non-Conventional Isotopes
Instrumentation developments, advanced data analysis, new source and detector technologies, synchrotron radiation applications, and studies involving non – ⁵⁷Fe isotopes.

LACAME 2026 welcomes both fundamental and applied contributions, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and promoting collaboration within the Latin American community and beyond.
