About the School<\/h3>\n
\n\t

Local Volume cosmology<\/strong> is entering a new era driven by the extraordinary quantity and precision of modern astronomical surveys. New datasets are transforming our understanding of nearby galaxies, stellar structures, and the small-scale distribution of dark matter.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This school will provide an overview of current challenges and opportunities in the field, with a particular focus on the synergy between precise astrometry from Gaia<\/strong>, deep wide-field photometry from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory (LSST)<\/strong>, and upcoming spectroscopic surveys<\/strong>. Together, these data are enabling new tests of the \u039b-CDM model<\/strong> on small scales.<\/span><\/p>\n

The program will combine lectures by international experts<\/strong>\u00a0with hands-on sessions using public datasets and simulations<\/strong>. Poster sessions and short student presentations<\/strong> will foster discussion and collaboration among participants.<\/span><\/p>\n

The school is designed for about 60 advanced students and early-career researchers<\/strong> from Argentina and neighboring countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The school will cover key topics in Local Volume cosmology<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n

    Dwarf galaxies with resolved stellar populations<\/strong> in the Milky Way and M31, using data from Gaia DR3<\/strong> and Rubin Observatory (LSST)<\/strong> together with cosmological simulations.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Stellar streams<\/strong> as probes of galaxy assembly, the Galactic potential, and dark matter substructure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Numerical modelling of tidal streams and galactic dynamics<\/strong>, using modern N-body techniques and tools such as PeTar, StreamSim, StreamSculptor, Agama, Galpy, Gala<\/strong>, and Dynamigal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Constraints on dark matter physics<\/strong> from nearby galaxies and their satellites.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Metal-poor stars<\/strong> in the halo, dwarf galaxies, and streams as tracers of early galaxy formation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Extending near-field cosmology beyond the Local Group<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
