Post-Conference Fieldtrip | <\/b>The Neuqu\u00e9n Basin<\/b><\/h2>\n

Located in the northern Patagonian Andes of Argentina, Neuqu\u00e9n Province is renowned for its remarkable diversity of landscapes, including snow-capped volcanoes, ancient forests, crystal-clear lakes, rivers, mountains, and vast steppe.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Rich in Mapuche cultural heritage and internationally recognized for its exceptional paleontological record, the province offers outstanding opportunities for nature-based tourism, outdoor recreation, winter sports, and scientific discovery.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\nWe propose a tour of the province, visiting museums that house some of the world’s largest dinosaurs, exploring a unique Araucaria forest on the slopes of Copahue Volcano, and tracing the geological history of the Neuqu\u00e9n Basin through its outstanding rock outcrops. We will explore Early Jurassic marine strata; the Vaca Muerta Formation, a Late Jurassic\u2013Early Cretaceous marine unit that constitutes a world-class source rock and major unconventional hydrocarbon reservoir; and the Jag\u00fcel Formation, a marine calcareous succession spanning the Cretaceous\u2013Paleogene boundary.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n
