IAR 60th ANNIVERSARY
Prospects for
Low Frequency
Radio Astronomy
in South America
November 15-18, 2022

The Instituto Argentino de Radioastronomía (IAR) was founded in 1962 as the first radio astronomy facility in Latin America. Nowadays it operates two 30-m radio telescopes used mainly for timing and continuum observations at 1.4 GHz. There is now a growing interest in the low-frequency radio window to the Universe, with the planning and implementation of pathfinders and new observatories around the world. IAR is contributing to these efforts with the Multipurpose Interferometer Array (MIA), a versatile low-frequency interferometer (100 MHz - 2 GHz) designed to investigate transient sources and non-thermal cosmic radiation from the Southern Hemisphere. MIA is conceived as the future main facility to be operated by IAR.

On the occasion of the institute's 60th anniversary, we will hold a conference that will gather worldwide experts on low-frequency radio astronomy in Buenos Aires city. The meeting will consist of invited and contributing talks, posters, and plenty of time for discussions. Electronic proceedings will be edited with the contributions so a wide audience will benefit from the meeting. A visit to the facilities of IAR in Villa Elisa is also planned.

NH City Buenos Aires

The 5-star hotel NH Buenos Aires City, formerly known as NH City Buenos Aires, is in the center of historic Buenos Aires. Its 1930s art deco façade fits in beautifully with the Cabildo nearby and the main square Plaza de Mayo. It’s just a little further to the cobbled streets of San Telmo. The hotel is close to the Puerto Madero waterfront, shops along Florida Street, and public transport to all corners of the city.

For those workshop participants who wish to make a reservation, please send an email to rsv.nhcity@nh-hostels.com clearly indicating that you are a participant in the "Prospects of low-frequency radio astronomy in South America" workshop, as there is a discount rate.
